Arlington and Mariners Marsh Concepts
While I was a part of Matrix New World Engineering I, I was a part of the team that identified areas of an existing marsh that had been degraded due to sea level rise and areas that should have enhancements performed. Enhancements included replanting native plants and removal of invasives. The goal is to improve the overall health of the tidal wetland and create renderings to present to the NYCDPR to ensure it matches their vision. This project was part of the larger project for offshore wind power and was required due to the impacts on the main staging yard created to the existing shoreline in other locations. NYCDPR reviewed the types and acreage of areas affected to create ratios of different enhancements, creation, and restoration. From the required ratios of improvements, the lead landscape architect and I outlined areas to meet the requirements. I was tasked with creating the plant list for three different planting zones, creating aerial renderings of the improvements highlighting the changes and quantifying the types of changes proposed, and creating cross sections to show how we envisioned the restorations to be completed.
